Dorothy Jeraldine “Jerry” Schaffner, 95, Hermann, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Victorian Place in Hermann surrounded by her devoted family members.
She was born Oct. 27, 1928, to the late John L. and Ruby E. (Foster) Hiner in Moravia, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Horace Schaffner June 1, 1946, in Albia, Iowa.
Jerry was a member of Warrenton Christian Church in Warrenton, and a former member of the Central Christian Church in O’Fallon, Ill., where she also served as the director for their preschool. She was a very devote Christian and was very involved in her church and church activities.
Jerry was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She enjoyed watching game shows, walking, sight seeing and especially spending time with her family.
Jerry was preceded in death by spouse of 44 years, Horace; parents, John and Ruby; and brothers, John, Max and Pearl Hiner.
She is survived by daughters, Dorothy Kinion and husband Kent of Madison, Ala., Dorcas Ruff and husband Gary of Chamois and Debbie Miller and husband Dr. Bill, of Hermann; son, Daniel Schaffner and wife Sue of La Porte, Colo.; close friend, Carli Schaffner of Ankney, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hiner of Rock Island, Iowa, Mary Schaffner of Seymour, Iowa and Linda Schaffner of Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 25, at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann.
Visitation will also be held from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at Thomas Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa.
Interment will be in the Main Station Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa.
Memorial contributions suggested to Gentiva Hospice or Maine Station Cemetery.
