Argyle trustees affirm decision to have residents read meters

ARGYLE —  At their meeting on Thursday, Argyle trustees reviewed a letter they sent to Public Water District #4, noting that they had voted to no longer read the water meters. The letter states, “We are going to depend on our households to get the meters read and payment sent in on time.”

The letter continued, noting the Argyle Board of Trustees “is not opposed to keeping the communication line open between the sewer and water district” but that they feel “this is the best choice for us at this time.”

Treasurer Kym Brunnert said that while there was no response to the letter, the water district had hired someone to read the water meters.

“At this point, we have cut all ties with the water district,” Brunnert said, adding she plans to be very diligent about following up with customers and getting the readings and payments on time.

In other business, Brunnert noted Argyle is without an attorney since Village Attorney Kent Brown is no longer in private practice. She will continue to follow up with several potential candidates.

• All trustees offered to help Mayor Colby Davis take down the American flags and flag poles after Labor Day. Davis said that he would send out a text, and they could work together to get everything down. He added that it had not been that big of a deal to put them up by himself, but he always appreciated the extra help.

• Trustees tabled adding a sign to the old building they have been fixing up. Earlier this summer, trustees placed plexiglass over the damaged windows to prevent more damage to the building’s interior.

“Do we have any historical record of what that building was used for?” Davis asked.

“I have heard so many stories; I’m not sure,” Brunnert said.

Davis said he was sure there had to be some kind of record for the building. He added that although the issue was tabled, he would be interested in researching its history and suggesting names.

Brunnert said that several other people in town were interested in helping with the renovation and improvements to the building when things are a little further along.

• Trustees discussed several intersections where overgrown trees, shrubs, and weeds were making it hard to see oncoming traffic and could create a dangerous situation.

Everyone agreed the best course of action would be to talk to the property owners with overgrown plants and see if they could assist in trimming them to increase visibility.

• Trustees approved outstanding bills as follows: general ($2,213.03), and sewer ($2,376.10).

• The village had the following revenues for the month: general ($4,181.60) and sewer ($3,149.10).

• Argyle had the following account balances: general checking ($19,128.89), general money market account ($58,935.42), sewer checking ($7,247.49), sewer debt service ($31,547.66), and sewer money market ($30,273.49).

• Trustees will have their next meeting on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m.
