Hudson released after bond reduced

PHELPS COUNTY  — State Tech Chief Information Officer Samuel L. Hudson, charged on April 24 in a felony Phelps County warrant alleging three counts of deviate sexual sodomy against a male victim less than 14 years of age, was bonded out on May 20 by State Tech Chief of Staff Amy Ames. Court records indicate Ames paid $10,000 by personal check to the court to secure his release.

According to State Tech President Dr. Shawn Strong, Hudson’s release had nothing to do with State Tech. “The college has never discussed his bond,” he said.

On May 20, Phelps County Judge John D. Beger reduced Hudson’s bond from $250,000 to $100,000 cash or surety, or 10% paid to the circuit clerk, under the provisions that he has no contact with the victim or family, that he is supervised by Outreach Consulting and Counseling Services, and that he enrolls in the high level of RePath supervision.

RePath is an electronic monitoring app downloaded to a person’s smartphone as an alternative to an ankle monitor. At its most restrictive supervision level, the app allows officers or supervisors to view the location of the person’s phone on both a map and a timeline. It also requires participants to check in at allotted times or upon request by taking a photo of themselves, and to set zones where the participant must be during certain times, is allowed to be during other times, and is not allowed to be.

Assuming Hudson appears in court as required, that money will be refunded at the conclusion of the case.

Hudson’s next court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 18 to set a trial date.
