Linn downs New Bloomfield, 5-1

In last Wednesday’s game at New Bloomfield, the Lady Wildcats won 5-1 despite claiming only three hits in the contest.

“It was a really good win for us,” said Coach Ryan Rost. “We didn’t hit our best in this game, but our pitching and defense really picked us up again to secure the win.”

Hannah Hackmann (1-2, 3 RBI) had a clutch two-run double in the seventh to help secure the victory.

Kenzy Hackmann drew a lead-off walk in the seventh but seemed stuck there until Emma Starke was hit by a pitch. That put two aboard for H. Hackmann, who smashed a double to center field to clear the bases.

Kylie Peters and Kiana Hostetler provided a single each in the win.

“Our base-running was really good in this game, taking advantage of any opportunity we had to help score runs,” said Rost.

In the first, K. Hackmann led off with a walk and was joined by Voss and Elli Dudenhoeffer, each of whom likewise drew a base-on-balls. K. Hackmann scored on a line-out by Starke.

Two batters later, H. Hackmann hit a sac fly to plate Voss.

Sophie Voss pitched a great game, holding a good team to only one earned run on seven hits, 12 strikeouts, and one walk.

“Any time you can get a win against that good of a team, it is great,” said Rost. “It helps build confidence looking toward the postseason, and it helps going forward with district seeding.”
