CHAMOIS — A second food box distribution will be on Thursday, July 11, at the city park in Chamois. These boxes will contain produce and protein, similar to the last.
Take advantage of the opportunity to learn new recipes and tips for stretching your food budget from the MU Extension team. They’ll be on hand at the food box distribution, providing samples of the items in the boxes and even offering a taste of the seasonings used in the recipes for those who may not have them at home.
MU Extension personnel will also gauge interest in a single-session cooking class, which may be coordinated with a future distribution.
Osage County Extension will host its annual Kids’ Morning Out at the Osage County Fair on July 12 from 9-11:30 a.m.
The Osage County Health Department is hosting its fourth annual pool party at Osage View on Friday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. No lifeguard will be on duty, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The first 200 people will receive a swag bag and free Sweet Bee’s shaved ice.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients who need skills, training, education, and/or employer connections are encouraged to contact Avery Cockerham at CMCA for more information about the Missouri Department of Social Services SkillUp program. Food-stamp recipients gain skills, training, and work experience through the program, which also offers help improving resumes and interviewing skills.
Head Start is still accepting donations of children’s and men’s clothing for its garage sale. The date of the sale is pending. Women’s clothing is no longer being accepted, and Head Start will not offer household items at this sale.
The next Community Helpers Meeting will be at 9 a.m. on July 11, at the Osage County Library in Linn.
