Matthew L. Smith, 41, Linn, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024.

He was born Jan. 15, 1983, in Jefferson City, a son to the late Stephen “Snuffy” Smith and Bonnie (Sallin) Brandt.

He was a 2001 graduate of Linn High School. 

Matt was united in marriage to Chelsea McCuskey May 31, 2008, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. 

He began his working career at Thermocore of Missouri from February 2003 until February of 2014 first as a carpenter and later in sales, then Riley Toyota and later Rusty Drewing Toyota in Jefferson City as the finance manager, until his passing.  Matt had a nitch for sales. He turned his carpenter job at Thermocore into a sales position by the time he left.  He always said that anything was for sale for the right price. 

Matt was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn. 

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, bowling and watching/coaching his kids play sports.  Matt was a perfectionist, who enjoyed mowing the grass and getting his stripes just right.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and also enjoyed watching all NBA games. Matt put 110% into everything he did and mastered it quickly, anything from picking up volleyball for the first time to any job he ever did.  He always made time for people no matter what he was doing. 

Matt’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children, family, friends and going to family gatherings. 

He was preceded in death by father, Stephen; stepfather, Gerald “Gary” Brandt; and niece, Audrianna Putt.

Matt is survived by wife of 16 years, Chelsea; mother, Bonnie Brandt; children, Addisyn Grace, Kynlee Renee, Mylee Lynn, Paisley Mae and Beckham Matthew Smith, all of the home;  siblings, John Smith and wife Krystle and Mikalah Lauberth and husband Alex, all  of Bonnots Mill, Sarah Pyatt of Linn, Rebeka Stevens and husband Dustin of Columbia, Christopher Brandt and friend Claire Hemphill, Katie Brandt and friend Tyler Lopez, Claire, Tyler and  Dawson Brandt, all of Chamois and Aaron Brandt of St. Louis; parents-in-law, James McCuskey and Angela Casey of Chamois, Ed and Stacy Thoenen and Cathy Roark, all of Linn; siblings-in-law, Alyssa Temmen and husband Josh of Westphalia, Shelby Thoenen and friend Stephen Padgett of Montgomery City, James “Jimmy” McCuskey and friend Ella Scheulen and Kristin McCuskey, all of Linn; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held (today) Wednesday, July 3, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Fr. Colin Franklin officiating. Interment was in the St. George Parish Cemetery.
